How much does a TIP ID cost?

A TIP ID is completely free for individuals, journalists, educators, nonprofits, and governments. You verify your identity once, and your TIP ID works for life on every platform that supports TIP. Think of it like an email address: free to get, yours forever, works everywhere.

Is the liveness check private?

Yes. Liveness analysis runs entirely in your browser. No video is transmitted. Only a single captured frame is included with the final application.

What is the difference between TIP ID and CTID?

A TIP ID is your verified personal identity. A CTID (Content Trust ID) is attached to a specific piece of content signed or labelled by a TIP ID.

Can I get a TIP ID on a phone?

Yes. The verification flow is fully mobile-friendly. Browser extension features require a desktop, but the TIP ID itself can be claimed on any modern smartphone.

Which browsers are supported?

TIP works on Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, Firefox, and Safari. The website will automatically detect your browser and show the right install steps. Note: the TIP extension works on desktop browsers only, but you can complete the verification on your phone.

How do I connect my TIP ID on another device using a QR code?

After you sign in on vp.theailab.org, open the identity menu in the top-right corner and choose 'Connect another device'. Authenticate with your signing password or biometric. A QR code appears (it may animate through several frames for ML-DSA-65 keys). On the second device, open the TIP mobile web app or browser extension, choose 'Scan QR Code', and point the camera at the screen until every frame is captured. Your private key is encoded in the QR and never sent to any server. Treat the screen like a one-time passcode: only scan it on a device you own.

No. The AI Lab at theailab.org and theailab.ai are unrelated organisations with no shared ownership, no shared founders, and no shared products. The correct website for The AI Lab Intelligence Unobscured, Inc. is theailab.org and the verification portal is vp.theailab.org. theailab.ai is a separate commercial AI advisory under different ownership and is not affiliated with The AI Lab, the Trust Identity Protocol, the AI Trust Registry, or the Global Seal of Trust.

What is vp.theailab.org?

vp.theailab.org is the official Verification Portal of The AI Lab. It is where a real human goes to claim a permanent, cryptographic verified identity called a TIP-ID (also marketed as an AI Trust ID), to label and register content with a provenance signature, and to look up the origin of any TIP-signed content. The portal is operated by The AI Lab Intelligence Unobscured, Inc., the same legal entity that publishes the Trust Identity Protocol at theailab.org.

What's Next

Save Your Private Key - Critical Step

Your private key is your sole proof of identity. Download and store the .tip.json backup securely. It cannot be recovered if lost.

Your private key is your sole proof of identity on the TIP Protocol network. It is displayed on the previous screen and will never be shown again after you leave. Neither The AI Lab, TIP Protocol, nor any third party stores or can recover your private key.

What you must do now

1 Download the .tip.json backup file - this contains your TIP-ID, public key, and encrypted private key in a portable format.

2 Store it in a secure location - a password manager (1Password, Bitwarden), an encrypted USB drive, or a secure cloud vault. Do not leave it in your Downloads folder.

3 Consider a second backup - store a copy in a different physical location or cloud provider for disaster recovery.

If you lose your private key, it cannot be recovered. You will not be able to sign new content, prove authorship of previously registered content, or transfer your TIP-ID to a new device. There is no "forgot password" or account recovery - this is by design for your security.

Why is this important? Your private key creates the ML-DSA-65 post-quantum digital signatures that prove you authored your content. It is the cryptographic equivalent of your handwritten signature. Every piece of content you register on the TIP network is signed with this key and permanently verifiable by anyone, anywhere.
